Last month, I began to highlight our four immediate and long term strategies in our Covenant for Peace for safe communities and wrote about connecting our children and parents with each other and with their Catholic faith.
This month, I emphasize our second strategy, namely, “to create more public spaces and to transition our churches and facilities into welcoming sanctuaries for our young people.” As I look around our Diocese, I see three empty schools, other wonderful facilities all of which are serving many needs and ministries, yet our buildings are not used to their maximum potential. I propose to make our facilities a place of sanctuary for our young people.
DIOCESE OF MONTEREY'S STATEMENT ON THE OUTCOME OF THE PROPOSITION 8 TRIAL
We are disappointed in the outcome of the trial challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8.
Our faith teaches us that marriage is not merely a human institution, but rather is instituted by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman to live together in mutual love that imitates the love that God has for each one of us.
