The mission of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Monterey is to provide specified human services to the poor and disadvantaged, to promote justice, peace, human dignity, self-determination and self-sufficiency in accord with the Gospel and Catholic Social Justice Teachings, and to cooperate with other individuals and groups of goodwill to strengthen our communities.
Catholic Charities of the Monterey Diocese was organized in 1983 for the purpose of helping the poor and the vulnerable who often times do not fit within the usual system. Currently, there are three major programs:
Mental Health Counseling Services: We have a commitment to offer accessible, high-quality and compassionate mental health care to the communities served based on a client's ability to pay. Among the services provided are general clinical counseling for individuals, couples, and families, extended bereavement counseling, pre-marital counseling and services to youth. Services offered in our Seaside and Watsonville offices.
Family Supportive Services: The Family Supportive Services Program provides direct financial aid with rental, move-in and utility assistance as well as assisting with the Cal Fresh application process for eligible families and individuals. Services offered in the San Luis Obispo, Seaside, Watsonville and Salinas offices.
Tattoo Removal: This program is designed to encourage adolescents and young adults of the California Central Coast to become rejuvenated spiritually, culturally and physically by removing tattoos that are gang related or generally anti-social tattoos that may interfere with achieving personal positive goals. Services offered in the Santa Cruz Office.
Immigration & Citizenship: Helps immigrants navigate the cumbersome and complex processes and procedures involved in becoming a naturalized citizen.
Catholic Charities of the Monterey Diocese is a valuable part of the lives of the poor. We are often seen as the last resort for families who are not able to access needed counseling, supportive services and immigration and citizenship services. We reach the community of the poor in keeping with our mission to advocate for justice and human dignity.
