cently Bishop Daniel Garcia celebrated the Rite of Admission to Candidacy at Mass in San Carlos Cathedral with the diaconate formation class marking a new stage on their formation for ministry as deacons. In the picture can be seen the new candidates along with their wives: Jorge and Lorena Ruvalcaba, Bob and Susan Bourgault, Mike and Diane Bokulich, Jewel and Stacey Gentry, and Gabriel and Leticia Rodriguez. Also in the picture is the Director of Formation, Deacon David Ford, Vice-Chancellor, along with his wife Lorie, and Ann Ventura, both involved in the diaconate formation program. Being one of the threefold Orders from the early Church, Deacons are ordained as clergy in the Catholic Church, sent by the Bishop to parish assignments, to serve with the pastors, priests and lay ministers in the areas of Word, Sacrament and Charity. As servants in our Church, with a heart for the poor and suffering, they also preach and teach, baptize, witness marriages, and preside at Vigil and Committal services as well as presiding at Funeral Liturgies outside Mass. Deacons serve in various capacities as needed including serving as part of the Bishop’s Curia in the Pastoral Center. If you would like to explore a possible calling to serve as a deacon, please don’t hesitate to contact Deacon Jewel or Ann at the Pastoral Center: 831-373-4345.
